The Fédération des parents de C.-B. has been a partner of the Jeunes leaders des relations saines (JLRS) program, an initiative of Réseau-Femmes C.-B., since the JLRS program started six years ago. On June 9, the Fédération was pleased to celebrate the commitment of young Francophones in grades 9 to 12 who have carried out awareness projects on themes that matter to them.
The JLRS program came about because young people wanted to get together to raise awareness, build their skills, and discuss social issues such as inclusion, healthy relationships, anti-violence, and anti-racism in the school environment in British Columbia. In their own words, they describe themselves as follows: “We fight against interpersonal violence and promote healthy relationships by using an anti-discrimination approach and recognizing the identity intersections of French-speaking youth in British Columbia.”
The Fédération des parents is pleased to have contributed to the program by preparing information sheets specifically for parents and guardians of school-aged children. These information sheets cover several topics promoting healthy relationships and violence prevention, and are available in the “Jeunes leaders des relations saines” section on our website : https://fpfcb.bc.ca/resources-school-age/?lang=en
They bring together resources that answer several questions, such as:
- How do I talk to my child about online behaviour and cyberbullying?
- Learn how to identify, understand, and experience emotions in a healthy way during conflict situations.
- Tips for a stigma-free home.
- How do I make sure my teen understands the influence of their friendships?
This is the only program of its kind, developed entirely in French and serving a Francophone population in a minority setting. The workshops offered throughout the year are aligned with the learning objectives of the British Columbia Ministry of Education and Child Care.
