We celebrated the Journée nationale de l’engagement parental en éducation francophone on June 1!

The Fédération has been at the forefront of the positive and significant impact of parental involvement in B.C. for 45 years! Its very existence is the result of the unwavering involvement and mobilization of groups of Francophone parents, who have changed the course of history and the Francophone education system, by demanding that the province give Francophones the right to an education of equivalent quality to that of the majority.

The parents’ movement led to an important milestone, the creation of the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.-B. (CSF) in 1995, and it continues to be successful today, thanks to parents who continue to work closely with the Fédération des parents and the CSF to ensure that Francophone child care centres and schools are created, responding to the growth of Francophone communities in different regions of the province.

This collaboration will support and strengthen the education continuum, from early childhood to post-secondary, which is a crucial element in meeting the needs of families and ensuring the survival and the transmission of French for future generations.

June 1 is therefore a time of celebration for all involved parents, some with the parents’ associations, and others occasionally as needed, at appropriate moments during the year. Whether it’s to make their voices heard during parents’ association meetings or to lend a hand in organizing an activity at school, every gesture counts and contributes toward building a strong and dynamic Francophone educational culture!

In keeping with tradition, the Fédération des parents will honour the work of parent volunteers with the presentation of the prestigious Martine Galibois-Barss Award and with certificates of recognition during its annual conference next November. Parents’ associations can also send a nomination for a parent volunteer in their community now!

June 1 is therefore a perfect opportunity to publicly celebrate parents, true drivers of change throughout the school and educational community.
