What’s new at the Tire-Lire centre?

A new coordinator for our resource lending centre

After serving as coordinator of Tire-Lire for almost 19 years, Pierrette Huard is preparing to return to Quebec, where she and her spouse will enjoy a well-deserved retirement. We thank her very warmly for all these years spent serving Francophone families in British Columbia.

Confirming that she has loved every aspect of her work, especially meeting with parents and their children, Pierrette sends this goodbye message to Tire-Lire subscribers: continue reading plenty of stories to your children, and make sure they grow up always surrounded by books!

Muriel Marguerite is taking over at the Tire-Lire centre. Our new coordinator arrived from France 17 years ago, following a wild dream of settling on the west coast of Canada. In love with nature and endless wilderness, she has made British Columbia her home and Canada her country. However, she’s not forgetting her roots; both the French language and the Francophone community are close to her heart.

Her professional path has been quite varied, but it has always been in the service sector; this is what motivates and keeps her happy. When she's not at Tire-Lire, you'll find her reading a good book, enjoying life with her little family, or giving Zumba classes!

Educational books and games delivered to your door

Did you know that Francophone families from across British Columbia can benefit from Tire-Lire, which allows them to borrow from a collection of some 5,000 books, games, and educational resources in French?

Although the Tire-Lire centre is located inside the école des Pionniers-de-Maillardville, you don’t actually need to go there to select resources – the www.tire-lire.ca website allows you to easily navigate through its extensive catalogue. The resources are organized by age group, and also include books for both parents and educators. In addition, Tire-Lire continues to grow its catalogue, so there’s always something new!

At a cost of $20 per year, a Tire-Lire subscription gives you the opportunity to borrow up to 10 resources at a time (as many times as you want), and have them delivered by Canada Post for free at home anywhere in the province. There are no additional costs, because each order includes postage for its return by mail.

Muriel will be happy to prepare your online orders, as well as welcome subscribers to the centre who live in the Port Coquitlam area. The centre is once again open twice a week, on Tuesdays from 12 noon to 3 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also please note that during the summer of 2022, Tire-Lire will be closed from June 30 to July 25, and the last day to place an online order before the summer break is June 28.
