On this special day, the Fédération des parents highlights the crucial role played by parent volunteers in our Francophone schools.
Their achievements throughout the year deserve to be highlighted and celebrated. Thanks to their efforts, new schools and classrooms are being created, and new services and equipment are being offered in the schools, in addition to making renovations and adding modern outdoor spaces, among other things.
Their involvement makes all the difference, as it has since the beginning of the parents’ movement in British Columbia more than 46 years ago! It’s in this spirit that the Fédération des parents would like to share some news about a recent activity organized by l’APÉ de l’école Gabrielle-Roy on March 7, 2026.
Building connections through parental involvement: a concrete example in Surrey
This was its second community potluck, following the first event held in March 2025. It brought together several parents in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The liaison officers from the Fédération des parents travelled to Surrey for the occasion, to support the APÉ team and to tell the parents about the resources available to them, in addition to answering their questions.
The potluck also allowed several parents to get to know each other, exchange contact information, and strengthen ties within the school community. In addition, some parents were able to join the school’s WhatsApp group to stay connected with other families.
These moments of sharing demonstrate the importance of parental involvement in creating welcoming, inclusive, and dynamic Francophone school communities.
June 1 is a special opportunity to recognize all the committed parents who, through their involvement, contribute to promoting the growth of French-language education throughout the province.
