CAFE Activities
Workshops at the Family and Children Support Center
Every month, a workshop is offered to French-speaking parents. The workshops focus on topics such as children’s development (general and language), the development of their French-speaking identity, and physical and mental health.
Specialists and experts on specific topics give a presentation lasting about an hour before discussing with parents and answering their questions.
The workshops are free and take place on a weekday from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. In order to make these workshops accessible to all parents in the province, they are offered online via Zoom. Some are offered in person on an ad hoc basis.

Un espace d’échange unique dédié à la communauté de parents francophones de la Colombie-Britannique.
The Parents’ Federation is launching a new initiative within the province’s French-speaking parent community: “parent conversations“.
What is a conversation?
A “parent conversation” brings together a small number of parents interested in discussing a specific topic chosen in advance with other parents. One or two resource persons from the Parents’ Federation accompany the group, acting as facilitators to create a dynamic, warm, and supportive environment for discussion while guiding the conversation. The richness of the conversation lies in the sharing and exchanges, with each participant drawing on their daily experiences as a parent.
The meeting lasts about 90 minutes and usually takes place in the evening.
It can be held virtually or in person. The promotional material will specify this.
Conversations will be held in French, unless otherwise indicated.
The objectives of the conversations are:
- to open a space for parents to share knowledge, best practices, and experiences;
- to offer parents a way to equip themselves through enriching exchanges with their peers;
- to break the isolation that French-speaking parents living in minority communities may feel.
The secret ingredient of a conversation: everyone’s participation!
Participants bring the “parent conversations” to life through their willingness to engage.
